Adventages of Red Pine

1) The wood is available to supply to the market all the times. This is because Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Norway, and Sweden) have fully the area as the forest which is the resources of timber industries. Therefore, the cost of timber is always stable because of availability of the resources.

2) The mechanical properties of wood are enough for using as a structure or decoration parts of building. Normally, the wood can grow quickly in the summer or high temperature, but it grows slowly in the winter time. In Scandinavian areas, the wood can grow very slow because the weather is cold around 8 months and summer around 4 months per year; as a result, the annual ring of wood is very thin and the wood have high density and enough strength for using as a structure. For the pine wood from other areas such as Australia pine, the weather in Australia zone is hot more than the Scandinavian zone; hence, the pine wood from Australia will have lower density than Scandinavian red pine.

3) The wood age is around 80 – 120 years having enough strength for using as a structure of building.

4) The wood came from preservative forest having new plants all the time so this timber industry does have the problem about environment.

5) Wood work is consumed the lower energy by comparing with work as concrete, metal, aluminum and etc. Wood work is consumed energy 350 KWH/M3, but the energy consuming of concrete around 700 KWH/M3, metal 46,000 KWH/M3 and aluminum 141,500 KWH/M3. The lower energy consuming, the lower toxicity for the environment.

6) Red pine has the good pattern. This is because the annual ring of wood is very thin so the wood has many clear lines on the surfaces.

7) The color of red pine is light so it can match with the light tone of decoration. The red pine can be painted to be dark color for matching with decoration in dark tone such as walnut, teak, red wood color and etc. On the other hand, the dark color wood such as teak cannot be changed the color to be light color.

8) Harmless for living- Red Pine is Copper Azole wood treated. Although the Copper Azole have a chemical addition for against termite and fungal decay, It is harmless for human, animals and all living things.

9) Durability- Red Pine will last for centuries when protected from moisture. Preservative treatment provides long-term protection in severe exposes. Today’s treatment with Copper Azole is environmentally friendly.

10) The price of Scandinavian red pine is reasonable for using as the wooden structure and decoration instead using teak or other kinds of Thai hard wood.

11) The wood property is good for machining such as nailing, screwing, gluing, sanding, painting, and staining.

12) The wood has good acoustical property that means the wood can absorb the sound better than other materials. Many churches and music halls have been used the wood to be panels of the building. In addition, some parts of music instruments as violin are made from pine wood.

13) Scandinavian red pine house or building has the light weight; therefore, it can be save the cost of making the house and building foundation.

14) The thermal conductivity of wood is extremely low; therefore, the high temperature from exterior of building is not easy to pass to the interior of the building. The wood having humidity around 12% (equal standard humidity in Thailand) can conduct the thermal lower than the concrete around 6 – 20 times.

15) The collapse of wooden building is harder than the concrete building. Although wood can be burned easier than concrete and metal, the wooden structure of house burned is still remain the shape. However, the concrete buildings usually use steel as the structure. The steel can be molten when burning; as a result, the building can be collapsed easily.

16) Wood is an excellent electrical insulator. This is one of the reasons utility poles are made from wood.
