OSB (Oriented Stand Board)
OSB is easy to install and has many applications. OSB panels are manufactured to ensure consistency. They hold nails and fasteners securely, and come pre-marked with nailing lines to make installation faster. In addition, to wall sheathing, OSB is used for roof sheathing, floor sheathing and other specialty uses.
OSB is made by blending rectangular wood strands with thermal-set, waterproof adhesives. The treated strands are arranged in cross-directional layers that are then pressed together under extreme heat and pressure. The result is a rigid, dense engineered panel that is stiff, strong and durable. OSB meets the same performance standards as plywood, yet it won't cup or warp as easily.
In addition, OSB and Plywood structural panels have a glue bond rating of Exposure 1, which means they are designed to withstand exposure to the weather encountered during a reasonable construction period. The board is made with all water-resistant adhesives. Surface flaking or raised edges may occur if the board is exposed to high levels of moisture, but light sanding can remedy this without compromising structural integrity of the panels.
Moreover, OSB is efficient not just on the work site, but also in its manufacture: we use wood from small, fast growing trees. That means less waste and a better use of our forest resources.
